Why mould problems don’t get solved – and where to start?

If you’ve ever searched “mould in my home,” you’ll know the problem isn’t just the mould itself, it’s the answers.

Open a search engine and you’ll find everything from “just wipe it away with bleach” to “you need full professional remediation.” Some advice focuses on ventilation, others on damp, others on insulation. For most people, it quickly becomes overwhelming.

The reality is simple: not all mould problems are the same, and not all advice applies.

In some homes, mould is caused by condensation and can be improved with better airflow and small behaviour changes. In others, it’s a sign of a deeper issue (such as persistent damp, structural faults, or inadequate ventilation) where surface-level fixes won’t solve the problem long-term.

This is where many people get stuck. They try something. It works briefly, or not at all. The mould returns. Confidence drops. And eventually, it becomes something people live with rather than resolve.

But it doesn’t have to be that way.

The first step isn’t finding a product or calling a contractor. It’s understanding what kind of problem you’re dealing with.

To help with that, we’ve created a simple Mould Starting Point Checklist designed to guide you through the key questions you should be asking about your home, your environment, and your situation.

It won’t diagnose the issue completely, but it will help you move from confusion to clarity, and give you a better sense of what to do next.

Because the real challenge isn’t just mould – it’s knowing where to start.
